Prague city
Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is one of the most attractive and most visited cities in Europe. The city offers its visitors a breathtaking historical environment, presenting architectural masterpieces ranging from the Roman era basilicas to the art nouveau, functionalist and cubist houses of the 20th century. We invite you to visit, among others, the unique large complex of the Prague Castle overlooking the city from one of its hills, to walk over the Charles Bridge built in the 14th century, or to wander the narrow romantic streets of the Lesser and Old Town. Prague will also unveil itself to you as a busy, modern Central European center of culture and business with numerous restaurants, bars, music clubs, galleries and concert halls, and, of course, friendly people. For more information about the city please visit the following webpages: www.prague.eu or www.praha.eu

Czech currency, exchange rates
The Czech currency is the Czech crown (CZK). Payment in cash in other currencies is usually not accepted (nevertheless some shops or restaurants may accept EUR). There are many ATMs (cash dispensers) all around the city or you can pay by credit/debit cards in most shops and restaurants (VISA and MasterCards are the most common cards accepted).

Present-day exchange rates are around 1 EUR = 27.5 CZK, 1 GBP = 37 CZK. Be aware of bad exchange rates typically at the airport or in the main tourist areas and look for exchange agencies with no commision and favourable exchange rates.

Traveling by plane?

Prague has one international airport - Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG). It has two terminals used for regular flights. Which terminal your flight will use depends on the country from where the plane is arriving or the country to where the plane will be departing to (see below).

Please book your flight soon to save funds. www.skyscanner.com is useful for price comparison.

How to get from Prague Airport to the conference venue and nearby hotels is described here.

Prague Airport (PRG) - Václav Havel Airport Prague

www.prg.aero/en/

Terminal 3

Not used for regular flights

Traveling by train?

The main train station in Prague is located in the city center and it has a direct connection to the subway network. More information how to get to the conference venue and nearby hotels is described here.

Traveling by bus?

Most of the international bus lines come to the Florenc bus station. It is located close to the main railway station (and to the city center as well) and it has a direct connection to the subway network (the red line C and the yellow line B, station Florenc). More information how to get to the conference venue and nearby hotels is described here.

Traveling by car?

The best guidance is by GPS navigation. It is a good idea to update your GPS maps, because some big road reconstructions are beeing done on the way from the city center to the conference venue and many local road diversions could be applied.

Conference venue: 1014/57 Chaberská street, Prague 182 00, Czech Republic,
GPS: 50.1309086N, 14.4534017E (50°07'51.4"N 14°27'13.6"E)

The Institute of Photonics and Electronics (conference venue) has own parking facilities, but the capacity is limited. If you wish to leave your car at the institute during the conference days, then please contact the Organizer in advance.

How to get from Prague Airport to the Conference venue

By bus (Public transport)

Use bus Line 119 from Prague Airport (the bus stops in front of both Terminals) to Nádraží Veleslavín station (it is the end stop of bus Line 119).

Then take subway line A (green line) from Nádraží Veleslavín station to Muzeum station (7th station in Depo Hostivař direction).

Here change to line C (red line) and continue to Kobylisy station (5th station in Letňany direction). Use the exit from the perone close to the front of the train you have arrived in.

The Conference venue is located just 10 min walking distance (~800 m) from Kobylisy station.

Alternatively you can use tramway Line 17 to Vozovna Kobylisy station (it is the end stop of this line) and walk back downhill for ~250 m to reach the Conference venue. Please read the information about the temporary suspension of the tram service around Kobylisy station.

The whole trip takes approx. 1 hour including all transfers (daytime in working days). You can use a 32 CZK ticket (this ticket is valid for 90 min after validating it in the bus). You can find information or buy tickets in public transport info centers at the airport:

Public transport info centers at Prague Airport

www.dpp.cz/en/info-centres-at-prague-ruzyne-airport/

The info centres are located at the arrivals hall of both terminals and are opened daily from 7:00 to 21:00.They offer all the relevant information on the operation of public transport in Prague, its routes, timetables and fares (free of charge). In addition to information they offer in particular:

  • single-trip and short-term time tickets valid for 24 hours or for 1, 3 days respectively,
  • timetables for trams and buses (from whatever stop),
  • a map of Prague complete with its public transport network.

We do not recommend to use on the way from/to the airport the special Airport to city center bus line AE (Aerport Express).

It's route ends at the main railway station (Hlavní nádraží) and there you will have to change to subway line C (red line) and continue to Kobylisy station as it was desribed above.

But public transport tickets ARE NOT ACCEPTED on bus line AE, nor are AE tickets transferable to other lines, so the whole trip will cost you at least 84 CZK instead of 32 CZK with no special benefit against bus Line 119 (desribed above).

On line AE you will have to pay directly to the bus driver (one-way ticket to/from the main railway station is priced at 60 CZK) and you will have to buy additional 24 CZK ticket before entering the subway to continue your trip.

By a taxi

Taxis are much more expensive than public transport and due to a heavy traffic during working days it could be even slower. It is reasonable to use taxis only for night arrivals/departures, when the subway doesn’t operate.

COST MC Members/Substitutes should keep in mind the rules for taxi reimbursement!

Official taxi transport from Prague Airport

AAA radiotaxi (www.aaaradiotaxi.cz)

FIX Taxi (www.airportcars.cz)

More information here

We recommend to use one of the official taxi companies operating at the airport. You can find a taxi infront of the arrivals hall of both terminals. The fare from the airport to the Conference venue could be expected at around 800 CZK (higher fare is possible depending on the actual traffic situation).
