The Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ÚFE AV ČR) commemorates 70 years since the start of its research activities. On 1 January 1955, the Institute of Theoretical Radio Engineering of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences was founded, later its name was changed to the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics (ÚRE) and in 2007 it was renamed to today's Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the CAS.
The events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the ÚFE started on Tuesday 26 November with a social evening for external associates at Villa Lanna in Bubeneč, Prague. The programme was officially opened in the Apollon Hall by the director Pavel Peterka with the screening of a film about the first laser surgery of the retina, since which 60 years have passed this year. He also presented a special supplement of the magazine Vesmír No. 12/2024 dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the ÚFE. Eva Zažímalová, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and Ilona Müllerová, Vice-President for the 1st Scientific Area of the Czech Academy of Sciences, addressed the guests. During the evening, the Chamber Orchestra of the Academy (KOA) performed. The programme of the evening concluded with an informal discussion in the historical building of Villa Lanna.
