The SPIE award for an excellent student conference contribution at the Photonics Prague 2014 conference was awarded to Jakub Cajzl, a doctoral student from our Fiber lasers and nonlinear optics team.
The participants (mainly from European countries) introduced new research results in ultra weak photon emission from biological samples.
The winners of the national competition of the student scientific conference - I am a young scientist! - presented Czech science results at the International Olympiad INESPO. And they were very successful!

Europhysics News published an extract from our article called "Graphite/CdMnTe Schottky diodes and their electrical characteristic" in the Highlights from European Journals part of the magazine.
The two-day event was held in the conference room at Hotel DAP in Prague. The Technical Meeting of COST Action TD1001 (OFSeSa) was in the form of lectures on fiber sensors. A meeting of the Steering Committee of TD1001 took place at the end of the first day.
Jiří Homola, director of the Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the AS CR, v. v. i., has been appointed professor of physics - quantum optics and optoelectronics - on the proposal of the Scientific Council of the Charles University in Prague, with the effect from 1 March, 2014.
