The tour of the laboratories was started by Pavel Baran in the Laboratory of Nanotechnology with unique equipment for the production of nanostructures by electron beam lithography (EBL) and ion beam lithography and the TESCAN LYRA3 electron microscope with a number of unique extensions. At the Nano-Optics team's workplace, he saw the equipment for ultra-sensitive 3D nanoscopy and was interested in the successful knowledge and technology transfer in the case of the invention of the photothermal spatial light modulator. In the national time laboratory, he appreciated this long-standing service of the company as well as the rich popularization activities towards the general public. In the fibre laser laboratory, he saw the use of special optical fibres developed at ÚFE, e.g. in the European Defence Agency's TALOS project. Michal Cifra and Daniel Havelka from the Bioelectrodynamics research team presented the results of the large EXPRO project SubTHz on-chip devices for controlling protein nanomachines. Finally, Pavel Baran visited the laboratories of the Optical Biosensors research team, where he learned about multidisciplinary research on biosensors and their potential use in medicine.
The visit of the Chairman of the Science Council was an encouragement and a welcome opportunity to discuss current issues in research and its administration.
